Profile of Assistant Secretary of War for Air, Robert A. Lovett. F. Trubee Davison had been Assistant Secretary of War for Air, in charge of American air forces and airplane production, during the Hoover administration, but Americans were not thinking of war or of airplanes then and the office was abolished as one of the government first economies in the depression. During World War I, Lovett was a bomber pilot in France the Yale Unit, a group of New Haven boys who left college to join the Navy Flying Corps. F. Trubee Davison was the organizer and head of the Yale unit.
